Following a collision with manager Jurgen Klopp during Saturday’s match against Arsenal, Kostas Tsimikas suffered a broken collarbone, which the Liverpool manager confirmed.
While chasing a loose ball, Tsimikas and Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka collided with Klopp after the forward knocked the Greek defender off balance. Tsimikas needed to be removed since he was clearly uncomfortable. He had been taken to the hospital, as was disclosed during halftime on Sky Sports, and the manager has now confirmed the worst.
“It was massively overshadowed by Kostas Tsimika’s collarbone issue, definitely broken, so he is out for a long time,” Klopp said to Sky Sports. The remaining matters that we must observe. We find it difficult to accept the circumstances surrounding Robbo [Andy Robertson].”
Tsimikas’ injury causes Klopp, who is already without his starting left-back, Andy Robertson, due to a shoulder injury, even more problems at full-back. Since Joe Gomez is not a left-back by nature, he won’t be considered a long-term option in that role after replacing Tsimikas.
The most recent injury to the Greek full-back will keep him out for a long time, which will be devastating to an already thin Reds squad.
